A Very Happy Birthday to our Mum's.

What's The Perfect Birthday Present for Mum?

Present ideas for Mum, should always be done with careful thought and appreciation to show that you are grateful for everything she has done for you over the years. I used to grab either a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream or Croft Original sherry for her birthday gift. Now that I'm older and with kids of my own, I realise just how thoughtless this was. Sure, Mum loved her sherry, that's why I bought it, but was hardly what you could call the perfect present and it was so predictable too. I now think that birthday presents should be a surprise, this way, it shows you care and have thought about your birthday present for mum.

Mums will always appreciate flowers or chocolates for their birthday, unless they're on a diet or allergic to flowers! Additionally, flowers and chocolates can always be different, so although the gift may be predicable, the varieties can be a surprise. You may want to get a different birthday present for Mum. Perfume is a good idea, especially if you know Mum's favorite scent. You could buy her clothes but sizing is always a problem. It would be safer to go for accessories, such as a belt, bag or scarf. Most women like jewelry and it doesn't have to be expensive. Costume jewelry is more affordable, and there are pretty bracelets, earrings and brooches.

Each birthday month is associated with its own gemstone and its own flower. It would be a good birthday present for Mum if you could incorporate either the gemstone or the flower into a gift. If the flowers are out of season, you may come across them in a dried flower arrangement.

If Mum likes to cook, she may enjoy a new cookbook. Perhaps she has a favorite celebrity chef or a cuisine that she really likes. She may appreciate books on cake decoration or dinner parties. Of course, Mum also deserves a break from the kitchen. I once bought my mum a new frying pan for her birthday because she was always burning the bacon. “That’s not a present for me, it’s a present for you!” she hollered! She was right, and in hind sight, it was a pretty thoughtless gift, so think about Mum and Mum alone when choosing.

Perhaps a more thoughtful birthday present for Mum would be vouchers for an evening out at her favorite restaurant. Let someone else burn the bacon for a change!

I caught my kids whispering about sending e birthday cards to their grandparents this year and soon put a stop to that. The internet has many great uses, but there was no way I was going to have the children send a birthday greeting via email. Honestly, I really think we need to slow down sometimes and think about the family unit a little more.

As every woman knows, you can never have enough cosmetics. A good birthday present for Mum would be a lipstick, eye shadow or mascara brush. Make sure you get the shade she uses. A pretty make up bag is another idea, or a make up mirror. Toiletries are another idea, such as scented bath bubbles or hand made soaps always make great gifts for birthday.

Mums like to be sentimental sometimes. You could organize some family photographs into a photo album, with some written comments for each photo. Mums can't get enough of those baby-on-the-rug photos! Occasionally, it's nice for Mums to put their feet up and watch an old black and white movie. A good birthday present for Mum would be a romantic weepy or two. You could buy a DVD box set of great romantic classics, such as Casablanca and Brief Encounter. Don't forget to buy a box of tissues to go with it!

Every busy Mum deserves to be pampered and you could arrange a special day for Mum to relax. Mum could be given a day at a health spa, where she'll get the full treatment. If she's more athletic, an enjoyable birthday present for Mum could be a set of golf or tennis lessons.

Whatever you decide, it's always a good idea for birthday gifts to be a surprise and not too predicable. If you are like I used to be and buy the same thing year in year out, go the extra mile this birthday and take her aback with something totally unexpected. It shows you've thought and cared about her wants and needs, and what Mum doesn't like to feel wanted. Choosing a Birthday Present for Mum was easy and more enjoyable once i put a little careful thought into it.
